The Goals of ReCAST BR
During a February 2018 meeting of the ReCAST BR coalition, stakeholders brainstormed about what Baton Rouge should look like in the next 3-5 years. Accordingly, we have worked together to define our individual and collective efforts toward the following goals:
Address the impact of multi-layered trauma brought on by the events of 2016, particularly, the shooting of Alton Sterling, the police ambush and the August flood.
Increase equitable access for youth and their families to trauma-informed behavioral health and related resources and services.
Promote resilience and equity by implementing evidence-based youth violence prevention and community activities that benefit vulnerable youth and their families.
Generate a belief system and social narrative shift to empower the community to better understand racialized historical, cultural and personal perspectives embedded in systemic, structural and institutional interactions.
