The Goals of ReCAST BR

During a February 2018 meeting of the ReCAST BR coalition, stakeholders brainstormed about what Baton Rouge should look like in the next 3-5 years. Accordingly, we have worked together to define our individual and collective efforts toward the following goals: 

• Address the impact of multi-layered trauma brought on by the events of 2016, particularly, the shooting of Alton Sterling, the police ambush and the August flood.

• Increase equitable access for youth and their families to trauma-informed behavioral health and related resources and services.

• Promote resilience and equity by implementing evidence-based youth violence prevention and community activities that benefit vulnerable youth and their families.

• Generate a belief system and social narrative shift to empower the community to better understand racialized historical, cultural and personal perspectives embedded in systemic, structural and institutional interactions.
